VVT Exhaust Sprocket

Low-Alloy Steel Intake

These low-alloy steel, sintered intake and exhaust sprockets are designed for high-performance, double overhead camshaft (DOHC) V-6 engines with Variable Valve Timing (VVT).

Manufactured using a warm compaction process, the sprockets achieve a density of 7.25 g/cm³. Production requires precise temperature control, maintaining both the mold and powder within a ±2.8°C range. The process utilizes a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) hydraulic compounding molding machine, equipped with a grooved powder heater, to compact the sprocket to its final net shape.

The sophisticated design integrates multiple functions into a single component. It acts not only as a high-strength timing sprocket but also enables camshaft phasing for the VVT system. The sprocket teeth are induction hardened and tempered to a surface hardness of 70 HRA. The component exhibits a tensile strength of 1,169 MPa, a fatigue limit of 358 MPa, and a yield strength of 1,262 MPa.
